Hello, can anyone recommend a Thai bank in Pattaya for opening an account please? These are my needs..

1. A current account to deposit money (earning interest not too important).

2. A debit card for use in Thailand only.

3. Professional staff who can speak at least reasonable English.

4. Ability to send/receive money to/from a UK bank.

Many thanks..

Bangkok Bank, but it would be helpful to go with a Thai speaker.

Go to Central Festival Mall 4th floor all the Thai banks have an office there just before the entrance to the Central Department Store all have English speaking staff.

It may depend on which UK bank your account is in, Bangkok Bank used to have problems with Lloyds Bank accounts, why not ask your bank they may have a preferred local operator. It's not always as simple as you may think, the assistance of a Thai friend would be beneficial.

A lot of the branches will not let you open a bank account with a Non O visa and some even ask for workpermits, so you have to try your luck.

For Pattaya definitely Bangkok Bank. They have even been known to have promotions looking for business in one or two of the Pattaya Walking street agogo's and beer bars. The Bangkok Bank at the beginning of Walking Street next to the Bamboo Bar might be a good starting point. If I was opening an account in Bangkok then Kasikorn, which I was able to do 7 years ago. Having a visa or Thai speaker will also help your cause. Even supply a Thai address for correspondence to be sent will also help.
