we have booked EVA air flights to bangkok for July. We booked their premium class from heathrow. They were by far the cheapest and the reviews all seem to be good.

Hi Monica4, yes that was the figure on the website of Southall Travel for 1 persons fare. eg fare £210 and Tax £320 = £540, and this was for a May booking.

This tax thing is very odd. My Emirates ticket for June 2012 shows fare £536 - tax £109.10. This tax figure is also currently quoted on the Emirates site.

EVA air, they are direct from heathrow, food, seats and staff very good. Economy seats are 34" but their elite class, premium, is very good and not much more.

There is a difference between Tax and Duty. Some airlines include the UK Government APD (Air Passenger Duty) - which is a tax levied by the UK Government for flights originating from the UK - in with their flight price, leaving the taxes to be such as airport landing charges etc. shown separately. Others include the APD with Other taxes and charges. Some agents show the breakdown differently from the airline for the same flight. Most often these days the actual flight price is less than the other charges.

Tried using Malaysian Enrich miles towards a flight for instance? You'll be surprised that you use a lot of miles but still have to pay a lot of cash! That's because the miles can only be used against the flight part of the total cost. The majority of the cost is "Other charges" which you have to pay cash for.

If it's Business Class then it's hard to beat Emirates on the A380 but as far as cuisine, service and standards go, Qatar is far and away the better choice. Premium lounge in Doha along with the private check in terminal is phenomenal.

You could consider Royal Brunei. It would mean no alcohol on the aircraft, and you'd connect in Bandar Seri Begawan before going on to Bangkok, but they have some very good airfares for a full service airline, especially in Business Class (often much cheaper booking the Business Class airfares on zuji.com.au than through the airline's website).

They use the old Singapore Airlines aircraft, but they are pretty OK... no dramas from what I've heard.

Hi, I'm booked Thai Air in early May. !2:30 out 01:10 back. Is it possible to book seats? What seats are best - two adults in Economy. It seems that the plane type keeps changing. Cheers, Dan

Here is the Thai link to answer this..from what I can gather you need to make a special request to the Thai Airways office when you book your seat...Again this can be a bit of a lottery, if as with Thai recently they have been shuffling their fleet around to allow upgrades to be completed. As far as I know the upgrades involving the UK fleet are now just that...completed(Australia is now suffering). Here also are a few links which show you the layout of cabin class seating and may assist you to find that 'perfect seat'we all strive to get!!
