Hi, does US citizen need a transfer visa at New Delhi airport for flight connection to Nepal?

Coming from Europe, but on a same airline and connection time is <2 hours.

We are hoping they will just transfer us to our flight to Kathmandu in New Delhi airport without going through customs and buying transfer visa etc.

thank you so much!

Hi

My understanding is you will not need a visa as a US citizen with less than 34 hours between flights if the tickets are on a single PNR. However,Hopefully those with experience will post but I would also ask on the Delhi forum.

As long as you do not pass immigration no need for transit visa.

Your nationality is irrelevant, you are in transit. Transit visa means going thru immigration and entering India , and returning to immigration before leaving.

If you pass immigration you need a visa. If you do not no need for visa, it is as simple as that. My understanding is that you are not leaving the airport. The New Delhi has a very good email service. Just find their website on google and you will see contact email.

Hi, I am taking Etihad Airline from London Heathrow to Delhi via Abu Dhabi. On arrival in Delhi I have 4 hours before my flight on Drukair from Delhi to Paro. Because I can't check my luggage through to Paro, I need to pick up my luggage at Delhi airport and go through the normal process of immigration and customs clearance only to check in for my Drukair flight to Paro. Does anyone know an alternative for me to avoid having to obtain an India visa just to transit in Delhi? I have the same process for my return flight from Paro to Delhi to London.. thanks

@hireloom

If your arrival and departure flight booked on same ticket/PNR then you dont need visa,your baggage would be transferred at Delhi by airlines and you would be transferred to international departure through International transit,get in touch with your airline ground staff (It should be Jet or Air India i guess).

To avoid visa transit in India I have a connecting flight to Bhutan in Kathmandu.

I looked at Bangkok-Paro and Kathmandu-Paro as well but was recommended Delhi-Paro. With hindsight I should have chosen Kathmandu-Paro. A lesson learned. Thanks for your input.

I've transited both in Delhi and Kathmandu. Even when I do have to get a double entry visum for India for every travel to Bhutan,I'd travel rather through the new airport in Delhi than through the very old airport in Kathmandu.

The airport in Delhi is modern, has many good facilities, and I even think is a lot safer than Kathmandu. So don't feel sorry if you transit through Delhi.
