Breaking New – Another Earthquake hits Nepal :-(
A report from the BBC:
Not mch detail at the momet but the aricle probably will be added to.
Thanks both for those links. I just heard the news in Australia & it's so useful to have your links.
This is awful news! Were people still trekking up around Everest or had this stopped after the last earthquake?
As I understand it, the EBC trek is not closed but I expect very few people are trekking in the area.
Doesn't surprise me, we had a major earthquake here in 2010(7.1 mag) and followed by 13,000 aftershocks(most we didn't feel) and over 40 were over 5 mag with some big aftershocks thrown in the mix as well. So there will be aftershocks for the next 12 months and there will be some big aftershocks as well but they will gradually get less and less in magnitude.
Thanks for the latest link scoodly – This is Terrible news, just as we thought things were at least starting to get a little better.
I think that there were a few trekkers heading back up to EBC and I also remember reading that Everest was about to /had reopened for climbers – I expect that, again, it will take some time for the full story to emerge
I am no expert but a quake of magnitude of 7.4 seems almost as powerfull as the 7.9 but the "shaking amplitude" much less than these figures suggest (I read wiikipedia and the latest one was deeper which also has less impact on the surface. So, there is some hope that the damge from this one is considerably less than the first.
Rob, the latest information about climbing that I saw said expeditions had been called off:
Either way, let's hope the Nepali workers and climbers had not returned to the area.
