India is a big place. Your question is not specific enough. There are lots of good quality spa chains offering various types of treatments all over the country. Big cities have more options and are more expensive. Small towns have not-so-great options and are less expensive. Depending on the quality you will see prices anywhere from Rs 2500 to Rs 3500 for a 1hr treatment in the cities, but many are more expensive as well. Some 3-star "massages" in popular tourist spots are sleazy. Not sure what you are looking for but be careful.

In the south, there are many ayurvedic resorts e.g. in Kerala that have traditional therapeutic massages. Is that what you are looking for?

Thx a lot.

I'm going to Kolkata and Sikkim and will stay in 4* hotels.

I don't know of those hotels have spa, propably not.

Is it good idea if hotel can order a masseuse from the city?

I heard that many of masseuses in India just pick it up on the job from someone else who picked it up on the job, etc. so they don't have any of the therapeutic massage knowledge. Even I heard that the masseuses use to much oil.

Can you generally recommend (or not) massages in India, except of professional in the spa, or is just wasting of money?

Things you said are true, in some cases.

Your hotels will definitely have spa facility. Check with their rates and decide.

But there are good Kerla and Ayurvedic message centers in every big city in India.

So choose one with good reviews.

Use of massage : good message really rejuvenates you

You can try.

If you are taking msg from an indvidual, you can get better deal.

But big salons and Spa companies may not reduce.

but there is no harm in trying, there are 50% chances that you will get it
