I wish to record my extremely disappointing experience with Jay's lodge, Macaneta. We booked and paid a R1300 deposit for 3 nights for 3 people Jan 19-22nd 2012. We had spoken and dealt with Gerhard, the agent. The heavy flooding occurred a few days before these dates and we tried to contact him several times by phone and email to ascertain the state of the access to the lodge. He was aware we had no 4 wheel drive and he had assured us that Alma at the lodge would collect us off the ferry. Gerhard did not bother to return our calls so we were left in the dark, not knowing whether, if we made the journey from SA, we would be able to get there - we needed to confirm the transfer and if was possible! Eventually we gave up - the calls made to the lodge were unanswered too. After these dates we managed to get hold of Gerhard who said he had tried to return our calls and he would send his mobile supplier data list to our phone to prove this.
This never arrived and we then had to return to the UK. So we lost our deposit, and didn't have a holiday in Macaneta. We were disgusted by this unethical treatment. This message serves to warn any one else thinking of booking with Gerhard for Jay's Lodge. We have been going to Moz for years and have never experienced anything like this before.
