Access to snorkelling Vilancoulos and Bazaruto

Hi all, we are planning our honeymoon for June 2017 and would love to visit Mozambique for a week after a safari in S Africa. We are flying from Kruger to Vilancoulos to reach a beach. We initially liked the look of Azura Benguerra but have ruled it out simply due to budget - as understand it would be £1000 more than staying at Anantara Benguerra or Villa Santorini on the mainland just north of Vilancoulos.

Our travel agent has suggested Villa Santorini will suit us better than Anantara (perhaps as more boutique/less family oriented) but we are unsure as we are hoping to have easy access to snorkelling. This is important to us having enjoyed Maldives, Seychelles, and Caribbean snorkelling.

Please can anyone advise what access to snorkelling is like from Anantara Bazaruto - do you still need to take a boat still or can you snorkel and see good numbers of interesting fish straight off the beach? If we stay on the mainland does it just mean a longer boat trip and is the sea normally calm?

Basically a comparison on access from these hotels to good snorkelling would be much appreciated - thank you! Also if you can advise on the cost of boat trips to snorkelling areas if a boat is necessary that would be useful too.

Santorini does not compare to being on the islands. Amazing spot, but the beaches on the Vilankulo mainland are not so great. no snorkelling, and not good for swimming (muddy at low tide and a loooong walk to get knee deep water)

Sorry, not sure about boat costs but Vilankulo to the closest island will cost you about $100 per person per day if you find a group to go with. My advice is if the cost isnt much difference DEFINITELY stay on the island. This travel agent is crazy comparing the two experiences....
