Coastal Aviation

We fly mid february from Seronera Airstrip via Arusha to Zanzibar with Coastal Aviation.

We have heard that there is a limit for baggage including carry on of maximum 15 kg per person.

Made someone any experience how strictly they handle this limit.

Is a camera within this limit?

Thanks for your response.

These are only small planes. 13 seat Caravan etc.,

space is limited and you risk not getting everything with you. If they an accommodate your XS they will do their best but if the plane is full you will have problems. Squashy bags of course not rigid cases.

Your camera is not included of course.

Time to start working out what to pack and what to leave at home. You really do NOT need a big wardrobe.

Believe me, 15kG/33-LBS is more than enough weight allowance for what you need on safari. As an earlier trip report (believe the one "Manyara-Karatu" here, said they only used 2/outfits, though did change wears daily).

As mfuwe mentions, if plane is full, with everyone having a bag for the small hold, if you have any weight over the limit, something might be left behind for another flight.

Pack, unpack, remove items; pack, unpack, remove items again. Besides, you can have laundry done at lodges/camps for quite reasonable prices.

Carryon and camera can go in the cabin with you, placed on floor or lap.

Take what you think you will need to use there, then throw out one-half and only take 1/2, or less, of what you think you will "need"; and then this will be too much. You really don't need all that much there, and if you forget something you can always purchase it when you arrive. I've been with people who have taken so much that it's a big problem just lugging it around and they're sorry they took so much. After they arrive they realize that they didn't need dresses and so many changes of clothing. At the most you will need three changes of clothing, have the hotel's laundry service take care of getting you clean clothing to wear. No one is at a fashion show there, and if you do that you will look extremely funny.

I've went there with a carry on and stayed for several weeks and had not problem.
