Fez on the last day of Ramadan and where to stay

We are trying to plan a trip to Morocco next August. Our flight lands in Marrakesh on 17th august and we thought we would catch a train straight up to Fez that day. Then we plan to stay in Fez for a few days. We are aware that Ramadan finishes on the 18th. How much of the medina and city will be open on that day or will alot of it be closed due to the holiday.

If everything is going to be closed we may delay visiting Fez until later in our stay.

We are a family of four people and want somewhere to stay that is traditional but not too expensive. any suggestions on that as well woud be really appreciated. Thanks

Eid es Saghir, the end of Ramadan, is likely to fall on the 19th of August in 2012. I don't know if that would make any difference to your plans but the trains between Marrakech and Fes should be running to timetable. Whether you would want a seven hour journey straight after your flight will depend on you of course!

On that day Fez will be different , but just for one day , and the day after you can visite all the sites will be open , you are lucky to be there on that day to see how different is that in a muslim country.

I can say that it will be hard to catch the train after the flight if you have small kids.

And about where to stay , you can choose one of Riads inside the Medina , but not someone in a place called (Gzira) because it is not a safe place.

Enjoy your time
