Traveling form Chicago to Augusta- What airport?

What airport options are there to fly into to visit Augusta from Chicago? I know they have a regional airport but they can get very expensive, and often have a number of layovers to get there, and we're renting a car already anyway so don't mind the drive to and from a larger airport with more flight options and *maybe* cheaper flights. If you have any ideas or tips, please let me know.

Columbia SC, Greenville/Spartanburg, Atlanta, maybe even Savannah.

Check with your travel agent, and if you have a good one they can certainly answer your questions.

There's a direct flight from O'Hare to Columbia, SC. Rent a car and you will be in Augusta in under an hour.

Yeah, Columbia is probably the shortest drive if you don't want to fly into Augusta directly.
