I am seeing conflicting advice. Is tipping normal in Belize or not expected? Curious on this for drinks and meals but also for day tour operators and such. If it is typical what rate would that be? Thanks for any help.
Absolutely, at least 10%, increase according to service.
I tip the same as I do in the US. Usually 20% at restaurants. 10-20% for tour operators.
Do you tip private shuttle drivers?
Great thank you
We tipped almost everyone...standard is at least 10% for tours and i think that's worldwide. 20% at restaurants, unless service is really bad.
Anyone who thinks US tipping practices are world wide is living in a dream world. In most countries is it is expected that employers, rather than customers, compensate their employees. That certainly makes more sense to this global citizen.
Good global citizens understand each country is different and Belizean service providers do depend on gratuities. The services are priced accordingly.
Everywhere I've been, 10% was a standard for tours, if you wanted to tip. I've seen many people not tip, but if you're asking, it is probably because you want to.
As far as restaurants go, it varies much more, like in Europe where it is included in the price, but even then, you won't see them turning down a tip if you want to give it.
