Best stopovers hwy 49

Planning a Feb. trip from L.A along the 49er. Leaving L.A. Friday A.M. and up hwy. 5 getting there as quickly as possible. Need to be back home Monday night. Please, any advice on the 3 nights stopovers coming down the 49? Prefer contemporary hotel/motel setting. Also, what main areas should we concentrate on on our drive? Any advice will be helpful, we're stuck! Thank you

Coming down from Nevada City Grass Valley?

Sutter Creek Inn the first night, Murphy's Hotel the second.

CA Auto Assn (AAA) has a great guide book on the gold country.

The Malakoff Diggins and Columbia are way cool, but so is Mok Hill, Marshall Gold Discovery Park.... just too much to describe... I love the Gold Country.

Thought we'd take the 50 over into Placerville, I believe and then down 49. Will look into your suggestions....thank you so much!

My way would be 5 to 80 and down and it's better :)

With 50 you miss half the Gold Country because you start in Hangtown..... I think they call it "Placerville" these days.... Hangtown put off the tourists....
