Hi all, traveling from D.C. to Philadelphia on the 7th September and looking to travel at around 10am. Was wondering which option is best and if I should pre book (if so what site) for either bus or train

Thanks in advance

"best"-train. More comfortable seats and a faster trip. Also considerably more expensive than the bus--especially with an advance purchase of only a week.

Right now, you can book a seat on the 10:15 Megabus for a total of $27.50 (ride is 3 hours 40 minutes). Or the 10:05 Amtrak Northeast Regional for $94 (1 hour 54 minutes).

Train +1. It’s nicer than sitting on a bus for that long without being comfortable.

We each have our own breaking point on comfort/convenience vs. budget. For me, $67 can buy a lot of soft pretzels and cheesesteaks. :-)

Yeh looks like the bus is the best way then at them prices. Are the prices likely to go up for the train or could they be cheaper to purchase on the day from the station. Thanks

Also, I’ve been told about the greyhound Bus would you recommend this? Thanks again

Apart from price, one consideration when waiting until day of is that the train might be sold out and not even an option. Traveling last minute--costs could be all over the map. Today's 10:05 is $94, so that's likely as high as it will go--but this morning's 9:10 is only $58. Later NE Regionals are $116 today and tomorrow, but the pricing >$94 is likely due to holiday weekend demand.

3:40 is a long travel time to Philly--a lot of the buses can make it to NYC in that amount of time and you could make the drive to Philly yourself in about 2:45. I haven't taken Megabus, but clearly it's making a few stops--there might be other bus options that are quicker. Greyhound has a 10:30 that gets in at 1:55, currently priced at $19.

Ok so there isn’t much difference between greyhound and mega bus, I’ll probably just pick shortest drop point to hotels. Thanks for the advice

Go with Amtrak. Only about hour and a half ride to Philly.
