Hi! I am going to Whashington for a conference, and I am wondering whether is worth taking some time to go to New York and visit its Natural History Museum, since it sounds so amazing.

Linda R., if I might suggest, the best attraction in DC for 10-year olds is the National Zoo, which is absolutely free!

How much time do you have in DC already?

To the OP, (who might not even answer back) short answer... No...stay in DC for museums. NYC is great, but don't go out of your way just to see the AMNH.

There are many world renouned museums in D.C. that mimic NYC's. It is completely out of the way and a lot of money to get there. Save NYC AMNH for another time. You wont regret it and thank yourself later.
