What days is the White House open for tours?
You have to request through your Congress Person. Look around through threads on this forum for more info
I had tried calling our representative, but could not get through. Of course I'll keep trying.
They will tell you what day you can go once you give them the days you are in town.
You may have better luck emailing the office; my mother recently did that and got a reply fairly quickly. Phone lines are likely to be tied up until the healthcare vote next week. (That's not meant as a political statement; clarifying why you're having a hard time getting through on the phone.)
Go to your Senator or Representative's websites. Some have a 'scroll down' to request tours. Some tours, like the White House and FBI you must request 3 months advance . You can also request tours of 'the Capitol' and more. Tours of the White House require you to submit the SSN for everyone in your party for security clearance. We applied for the White House tour in July and just received confirmation for a tour for October 6 tour.
When you visit your representative's website to request a tour, you will be asked to specify the dates for which you will be available for tours. Then you may receive notification from that office that they have submitted (or will submit given the time frame for submitting requests for tours) your request. The next thing that should happen is an email from the White House tours office requesting additional information about your party--that doesn't mean you have a tour. Sometime about a week or two before your date request you will receive another email from the White House tours office telling you if you have been selected for a tour or not. If so, there are instructions about what to do next. Do be aware that many people do not get the tour so after checking the website for days tours are given, if you can submit several different days you may increase your chances of getting a tour.
