Transport from BWI to DC

Hi arriving Saturday afternoon at BWI and need to get to George Town. I know MARC doesn't run so is Amtrak next best option? Don't want to buy ticket for a specific train incase plane is delayed. Can you pay on the train? Is it much more expensive? Or any idea how much a cab or uber would be to George Town? Thanks

What time?

MARC runs 7 days per week, although less frequently than Monday to Friday. To get to Georgetown (one word) you'd have get from Union Station.

Some places claim to be in Georgetown when they're not.

Where are you headed exactly and how many are traveling?

You can take marc if you are willing to hang around for the next one which may be a few hours. Amtrak tickets cannot be bought on board but you can buy them from a kiosk at the station. They are going to be more expensive especially if the next train is an Acela however given the short distance they will not go beyond 35. Depending on the day, there is also the slight risk the train will be sold out but this is a remote possibility. I agree with waiting until the day of because of you happen to arrive close to a Marc time, you can use those savings

I've never been on any train where you can buy a ticket on board, you can often get fined big time for being on a train without a ticket, as you should.

You should also check SuperShuttle - the shared van service. Fare to Georgetown area should be around $40. You'll have to wait until they have a van going in that direction -- but that's against taking a bus from BWI air terminal to BWI train station, waiting for train, train to Union Station, and then cab/Uber/Metro across DC to Georgetown.

"I've never been on any train where you can buy a ticket on board, "

Take a MARC trip sometime. Enjoy a day in Baltimore. But if you buy on board you do have to pay a $5 supplement.

"One-way tickets may be purchased on board MARC Trains with cash only; no debit or credit cards or checks are accepted. Tickets purchased on trains are subject to a $5.00 surcharge if the ticket vending machine was available and/or the ticket office was open at train departure time."

Train systems all over the world sell tickets on the train. Amtrak used to before 9/11 caused them to stop due to security concerns.

Of course, way back when in the 1990's it was very common. Railways didn't keep a physical ticket office open at small train stations. You hopped on bosrd and paid the conductor.

With automated kiosks that's not really an issue these days.
