Scenic, Little known areas

Hi,

I'm a landscape photographer and I'm planning a road trip down to Botany Bay in SC. I'm looking for some other really interesting natural spots that I can take pictures of along the way. I'll also be going to Charlotte, Myrtle Beach and the Angel Oak Tree. I would ideally like to see some places that are not big tourist traps.

Thanks!

Well, IMO, Myrtle Beach IS a big tourist trap.

I know, that's why I'm looking for places that are not big tourist traps.

Do you have any suggestions for places that are not tourist traps?

You have several interesting options on the way to Edisto Beach/Botany Bay.

Caw Caw County Park on Highway 17 (Savannah Highway)

Dungannon Wildlife Preserve is on the road from Charleston to Edisto

The Grove Plantation on the Edisto River below Adams Run.

On Highway 17 at Jacksonboro is the Edisto Nature Trail. Might not be worth the detour unless you're heading on to see Pon Pon Chapel.

The Old Sheldon Church ruins might be of interest to you. It is not "little known", but also not a "tourist trap". Beautiful photo ops.

When you go to Angel Oak, drive on out Maybank Hwy, toward Wadmalaw Island and Rockville, you'll find scenery all the way out there, some great marsh views.

When you get to Rockville, turn left at the Pink Panther (there are signs pointing to Cherry Point Seafood), drive all the way out, continue after the road ends. Beautiful grounds at the Cherry Point boat ramp, lots of old oaks and more marsh views..

It's about 10 miles from Angel Oak to Rockville, not a quick stop, but I think it would be worth your time.
