Traveling during Henri

Hi all - looking for some New Englander advice and wisdom on traveling through Massachussets/New York/Vermont/New Hampshire to get to Maine during TS Henri. We can't cancel our trip and we're used to driving through rain and what not. Concerned about coming across areas that are flooded or easily impacted by these storms - having a hard time deciphering flood maps!

What part of NYS are you driving through?

Firstly, Henri is a Hurricane and not a Tropical Storm.

No, you cannot get out and drive around in the middle of a Hurricane.

The roads need to be kept clear for emergency vehicles.

Pick a spot and stay there until the storm passes.

We're not planning on driving in the storm - we're hoping to figure out a path that avoids. My concern is residual flooding and driving through towns that we aren't familiar with. Any input on how to best find information on local flooding would be appreciated.

Our best bet would be to take 87 up to Albany but I'm concerned about flooding near the Hudson and in the Catskills. Any advice?

I'd hunker down somewhere until the storm passes

Jenni, no one knows what path the Henri will take. They change direction all the time.

No one can tell you if your route is safe.

Stay put until the storm passes.

Seriously, you could be putting your lives in danger. A Hurricane isn’t heavy rain and whatnot.

No one knows when Jenni is planning to do this drive nor when each area will be traversed.

Sticking with the interstate is your best bet but I agree with planning to hunker down as the state or the county you are in may close roads depending on how bad any flooding is. We had two major 100 year floods within 5 years here in the Southern Tier of NY (2006, 2011) and that is what happened; road were closed not just during the storm but after the storm passed as well so keep that in mind.

Hunker down for 24-48 hours is your best and safest bet
