Prague_Vienna_Budapest

Greetings Fellow Travelers,

i require assistance and not sure how to go about this.

We are a family of 5 from South Africa who are travelling to the above cities (3 nights per city) from 02 July 2018 - 12 July 2018.

We received a quote of E190 (ZAR 2,850) per person for the following rail tickets from a South African based operator:

1. Prague - Vienna,

2. Vienna - Budapest.

I require assistance with regard to the following:

1. Is this a fair price?

2. Is it cheaper to book at the station?

3. Which secure websites could we look at to book the tickets for the above.

4. If we do an online booking, what documents are required for the relevant rail trips.

regards,

190 euros per person is a crazy price...

Prague to Vienna from 19 euros per person

https://www.cd.cz/en/eshop/

Vienna to Budapest from 19 euros

https://www.oebb.at/en/

those tickets are non changeable, so you need to be sure of your itinerary

If you are travelling together, which you are, you need a number of your passport as an ID..(just one person) and pay by credit card...then print the tickets at home. That's all you have to do.

there is also regiojet.com, a different train company, that also operates Praha - Wien, you can buy the tickets online and cancel or reschedule just before departure with no penalty.

I've not used Regiojet, only CD, but there is nothing to worry about, a reputable company.

hi there,

thanks for the information.

im in the process of making the booking. i needed guidance on the following:

1. we a group of 5. does only 1 traveler need to enter their details for the booking? the site does not ask for the names of all travelers.

2. what are the restrictions in terms of luggage that we allowed to carry on?

thanking you in advance

NB Prague to Vienna costs from about €14, small children travel free. All children travel free Vienna to Budapest if booked through oebb. You can take as much luggage as you like, but you have to carry it and stow it yourselves, so go easy. If you have a lot of luggage, consider the bus as you just put it in the hold and forget about it. RegioJet operates buses on both these routes (€14.50/€9 respectively).

Just one name is sufficient.

Thank you for the feedback GCEK,

if you may kindly indulge me one last time - I am making the Booking for 5 of us. All possess a South African Passport.

- Do i need to enter my passport number anywhere on the site; if so, at which point. I attempted a booking and got to the payment page; at this stage, i was not asked for a passport number - only my name and surname.

thanks in advance.

No, there is no need - they aren't interested in this information :) You just need a photo ID to verify the identity of the lead passenger.

Which site are you booking on? I have notices that www.oebb.at/en are now offering €14 tickets on the Prague - Vienna route and this might be better if you have children under 16 as they travel free.
