Shore Excursion - Forest Canyon Jetboat

We will be in Tauranga in December as part of our cruise.

There are two excursions that have piqued our interest and we would to know if

anyone has done them and if they would recommend one over the other.

First is Forest Canyon Jetboat and Hells Gate Geothermal Park.

The second is Blue Baths Tea & Rotorua Thermal Outing.

Any info or other suggestions will be appreciated and thank you in advance!

Hi there! I'm sure you will love our little slice of paradise. Not personally done the Canyon Jetboat but the jetboat rides I have done in the area have been great - definitely something to get a thrill if that's what you are after. Hells Gate is awesome, you will get an insight (albeit commercialised) into the Maori culture & history ! Perfect to get some R&R (even better if you don't mind getting a little dirty in the mud) ;-)

Wouldn't recommend the Blue Baths personally, I found it a little dull and nothing special. There are some very cool things you can do in Rotorua that I would recommend more, such as the Luge AMAZING views & restaurant at the top of the gondola and you don't have the ride to luge itself if you don't want to. Next door to that is Rainbow Springs, they are big on Kiwi Bird conservation if you're interested in the national wildlife. The Redwood forest is also spectacular, although may be similar near you?

What ever you end up doing, I'm sure you will enjoy! Great time weather-wise and you will no doubt experience the fab kiwi hospitality :-)

Try googling "Tauranga shore excursions" even though

you will be berthed at Mount Maunganui.

"Private" tour operators ( there are many) will pick you

up outside the gates in Salisbury Street - about 100 m

north of the northern end of the ship- and take you on

tours of the Bay of Plenty.

If you want to stay "local" just walk out the gates and

3 beaches, "main street" and the Mount will be within

1 kilometer. Local buses go over the harbour (4 per

hour) to Tauranga and cost a fraction of the ship "transfers".
