Te Puia Park

We are scheduled to stay one afternoon and evening at the Princess Gate in Rotorua this October. We have plans to attend the Tamaki Maori Village event/feast in the evening. Is there sufficient time to visit and see the Te Puia geyser park from say 13:00-16:30 hrs in the afternoon? Is this the best & quickest geyser park to visit in the immediate vicinity? Are taxis readily available in the area to transport to & from the attractions?

Hi Steve,

You do have time to visit Te Puia, if this attraction is important for you and taxi drop-off and pick-up goes smoothly. Te Puia has the excellent Maori carving centre, as well as Pohutu geyser (plays at random).

For alternative activities, a stroll through the nearby Government Gardens a step away from your hotel, is very pleasant, and is also where the Rotorua Museum is situated.

Ask your accommodator what they recommend by way of transport to/from Te Puia. The Thermal-land shuttle operates an afternoon timetable to/from Te Puia and the CBD which may fit in with the Tamaki Village evening, or pickup from Te Puia perhaps?.

Also consider taking a cab or walking across to Kuirau Park, which is near the city centre. Time permitting you could continue on to Ohinemutu Village on the lake-front and which is historic.
