Perth to Nambung National Park

Hi,

wonder if anyone could share some experiences regarding visiting Nambung National Park for the pinnacles and area around Cervantes. What other activities could we do or places of interest not to be missed when we are at Cervantes?

Is it advisable to drive there on our own or take bus or any other mean of transportation?

Is there any budget accommodation available at Cervantes?

And finally how many days would be needed to cover the pinnacles and area of interest around it?

Plenty of accommodation and activitities suggested on the above site.

Hire a car, unless you intend to take a specific Pinnacles tour from Perth. Catching a Greyhound Bus is not an option as you would be unable to get around anywhere once you were deposited in town.

A couple of days for the region would be sufficient IMO unless you are looking to do fishing and relaxing.

Hi teq sand...Cervantes is just over 2 and half hours drive from Perth. There is a backpackers accomodation www.cervanteslodge.com.au and a motel www.cervantespinnaclesmotel.com.au and there is also a caravan park. Other than the pinnacles, there is not much else in the town unless you are into fishing. It's a very windy place at times, so it's popular with kitesurfers and windsurfers. Generally most tourists do a day trip with a tour company stopping at other towns. People from Perth go up there with their boats to try fishing and catching lobster.

Drive from Perth to New Norcia and drive through Carnamah, Three Springs, Mingenew Mullewa and stop at Geraldton for the night.

17th May

Spend short morning at Geraldton and long drive to Denham

Spend evening at Denham and overnight at Denham

18th May

Head to Monkey Mia to visit the Shark Bay World Heritage

19th May

Drive to Kalbarri and spend the evening at Kalbarri and overnight at Kalbarri

20th May

Spend half day at Kalbarri and head to Cervantes and hope to see sunset at pinnacles, overnight t Cervantes

Your first day is very busy but doable if you go the back route to Caversham and you don't want to spend too much time at AQWA or with the animals at Caversham. Second day again busy but doable. I wouldn't spend the money to go to Rotto just to see a quokka but would be a pleasant day out if you hire bikes and have a look around. Perhaps do it on your last or second last day?

The 14th- group AQWA, Sorrento Quay and Hillarys together, they're all very close. Caversham is over on the other side of the greater metropolitain area.

The 15th is somewhat ambitious. The markets will take a couple of hours, as will the Prison tour. If you started at the crack of dawn you might be able to fit that in before lunch then head off to King's Park and Perth city. But it will be a very full on and tiring day.

Rottnest is really an all day thing. Quokkas (and the rest of Rottnest) are great, and as much as I love Rottnest I couldn't recommend spending the money to go over for just an hour or so. Besides, you won't see much of Rotto in a short time and there is so much to see.

Going from New Norcia I strongly recommend heading over to the coast road at Badgingarra via Moora to go on to Geraldton. Carnamah, Three Springs and Morawa are really just wide spots in the road, and IMHO Mullewa is certainly not worth making such a big detour for. Pastor Hawes' church is lovely but that's the only part of Mullewa that is.

After you visit Monkey Mia, are you overnighting back at Denham? They're only 25km apart, so IMO it would be easier on the packing/unpacking to stay in one or the other both nights.
