Can you recommend a dinner restaurant around .....

Flinders Lane? We plan to do a lot of walking during the day and may feel too tired to venture far some nights. We like most cuisines except Indian as curry does not agree with us unfortunately

There are soooo many places to choose from around the city. There are some really nice restaurants at Fed Square - which end of the city are you staying at?

Tazio is great for pizzas, up the top end of Flinders Lane.

The great thing about Melbourne is the trams, makes it very easy to get around town.

Little Bourke has a wealth of Asian restaurants.

There are many restaurants and cafes in Degraves St - which is located between Flinders St and Flinders Lane. They sell a variety of foods, from Italian to Asian to steaks.

I second the Degraves suggestion. Don't fear - staying in Flinders Lane means that you're right in the heart of some of Melbourne's best food. I suggest a little exploring close to the hotel may be the best option for you.

Rosati in Flinders Lane between Exhibition and Russell street (directly behind 101 Collins st) is a good restaurant. However, is only open for dinner Tuesday - Saturday nights (not Sunday or Monday). So depends on the nights you are here. I can also second MK's suggestion of Tazio. Good eats.

Forgot to finish my suggestions. Also in the same stretch as Rosati is the Swiss Club - only open for dinner on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights;

Wagamama (near the corner of Flinders Lane/Exhibition st) which is Euro-Japanese;

Terra Rossa (in the same building as the Swiss club - on the ground floor);

In George Place which runs off Flinders Lane between Russell and Exhibition Streets is one of Melbourne's best Italian restaurants, Il Solito Posto (The Usual Place), which has a bistro and a fine dining restaurant:http://www.ilsolitoposto.com.au/. Almost opposite Il Solito Posto is Italy 1, another Italian bistro: http://www.italy1.com.au

Looking back through your Melbourne questions I can't find any mention of exactly which hotel you are staying at, though this question hints at somewhere in Flinders Lane. Most of the suggestions are for the eastern end of the lane, whereas if you are at or near the western end it might be easier to pop over the river to the Southbank area where you will find a host of dining options from high-end to food halls. Whilst roaming through the day check out places close to where you are staying to see if they appeal and are within your budget. You have suggested elsewhere that you are looking for less expensive places. Most establishments have their menu posted outside so passers-by can do exactly that.

Thanks. I have lots of ideas from budget to the other end of the spectrum and will chose on each day according to how we feel and where we are. Looking forward to a Yarra Valley Wine Tour on Monday. I have been to Melbourne a few times before but my husband hasn't so I am planning sightseeing and food around his interests which,fortunately are similar to mine.Won't be doing much shopping this trip. I'll come back with my daughters who love to shop,shop,shop in Melbourne.

Flinders Lane has some of Melbourne's best restaurants in Melbourne (IMO) including:

Verge;

Cumulus;

Cecconi's;

Ezards at The Adelphi;

So if you are looking for somewhere special to eat, then I'd definately recommend the above.

Otherwise, in addition to the restaurants and cafes listed by the other posters that I also enjoy. I'd add:

Coda (between Exhibition/Russell St);

The Yak Bar (on the corner of Flinders Lane/Russell);

All of the above are located in the Spring St -> Swanston St sections of Flinders Lane. I'm not familiar with the other sections of Flinders Lane as we don't tend to wander too far at lunchtime from our office block. But, I'm sure there are some great ones further down too.
