Day Trip From Melbourne to Yarra Valley

I am reposting this again since I did not get a response previously. Please help.

We have one day to explore this area and have access to a car for the entire day. We would like to visit 1 winery only. We are not big wine people but would like to visit a scenic, reasonably priced winery for a tasting, have lunch at a winery or in Healseviile, spend a few hours at the Healseville Sanctuary and stop for some Chocolate and Ice Cream. We tend to like sweet wines. Any suggestions for a winery and reasonable restaurant and route order we should take? Any other suggestions for things to do along the route?

Get to the Sanctuary early. From there head to De Bortoli which is scenic and has a restaurant and cheese tastings. Another option is Chateau Yering.

Head to the Tarra Warra Museum of Art (also at a winery) on the way to either from Healesville. You go past the Chocolate factory on the way back to Melbourne. You will find that with the Sanctuary, lunch, tastings and choloate factory you will have very little time for much else. Wine tastings in almost all the wineries will be free, or at the most a couple OF dollars which is refundable if you buy a bottle of wine.

If you aren't wine drinkers, there are quite a few restaurants/cafes in Healesville which has a pleasant main street to wander. Many other wineries in the area have restaurants attached, but not all are open every day - check to see.

You will be able to pick up Yarra Valley brochures at the Melbourne Tourist info centres in the CBD - Town Hall and Bourke ST Mall hub.

I always like to suggest the Beechworth Bakery in Healesville to try some tradition Aussie fare. It is not far from the sanctuary and a great stop for something to take-away.

If you mainly like sweet wines, then many of the Yarra Valley wineries will be disappointing, as they mostly concentrate on dry table wines. One you might try is De Bortoli, as they are part of a larger group which makes wine in the Riverina (a part of NSW), where sweet wines are much more common. They produce a sweet white wine called Noble One, which is famous. The winery has a lovely Italian style restaurant, on a hill with views, a good tasting room and a cheese tasting area. If you want a more budget option for lunch, the nearby Dixon's Creek Cafe is excellent. The Yarra Valley Choclaterie is in this same area of the valley.

I'd start with the Healesville Sanctuary, as the animals will be more lively in warm weather in the morning. Then drive from Healesville to Yarra Glen (a very scenic drive), visit a winery, have lunch and finish at the choclaterie.
