Good Hotel to stay for 4 nights? Then collect a hire car?

We will be in Melbourne the 9th December and leave Adelaide on the 16th!

Our plan is 3 nights 4 days in Melbourne best area to stay?

Any recommendations for a good priced hotel or apartment? There will be 3 of us.

Then on the 13th we plan to hire a car to drive to Adelaide flying out on the 16th.

Is it best to head back to the airport to pick up a hire car or is there somewhere nearer in the City to grab one?

Thanks in advance for the help.

xx

What does good priced mean in AUD per night?

You’re not going to have any time to see Adelaide at all in that timeframe, so why bother going there?

We just flying out of Adelaide.

Want to do Melbourne and that amazing drive along the coast!

Around $300 would be good BUT we can afford a bit more if needed.

You will have plenty of time to see Adelaide in that time frame, it’s my home town. It’s not a big city and is easy to get around. You should also have time for a visit to the Barossa Valley, just an hour away from the city. In Melbourne Southbank is an ideal area to stay. The Travelodge is a very reasonably priced hotel in a good location. Quest apartments on Kavanagh Street is also well located, but there are several others. For something a bit more upmarket there is the Langham or in the city centre the very smart QT hotel. Google for hire cars and pick up points in the city. Definitely no need to go to the airport, in fact it would take you out of your way.

Lord Groningen, did you miss they have only 3 days for the drive from Melbourne to Adelaide? They’ll need all of that for the drive along GOR and then on to Adelaide.

OP you do know the GOR doesn’t go all the way to Adelaide?

Via the GOR requires an overnight at Pt. Fairy. Inland takes about 8 or 9 hours and no overnight. Inland is pretty boring, but still of interest if you have never driven it before.

We have 2 hotels booked for the GOR route we want to stop along the way hence allowing 2 nights for this.

We plan to arrive late afternoon in Adelaide and fly out the next day at lunch time.

Will look at Southbank Hotels/Apartments.

Any idea of nearest car hire place to here?

There are loads of car hire outlets in Southbank - enter your hotel address in google maps and click search and enter car rental and you will see the ones within walking distance.

Melbourne to Adelaide via the GOR needs a minimum of 3 overnights, 4 is better and 5 is better still. Can you take a day off Melbourne and add it to your roadtrip? Apollo Bay, Warrnambool and Robe make good stops.

You probably won’t need to stretch your budget by much, to book something of really good quality. Whether by good planning or luck, you’re arriving on a Sunday and this is going to help your total cost immensely - especially in the first two weeks of December.

A little peek at a rate grid over your dates, indicates that the market isn’t set, and the rates are all over the place. Mid range quality four stars costing more than five stars, and even within the five star, a vast disparity exists between the competitor sets. So I do suggest you do your research carefully.

For 5 Star, at approximately $20-25/night more than your nominated budget - if booking now - Quay West offers immense value.

For 4.5 Star, Crown Promenade comes in well under your budget and is a superb property

For 4 Star, Punthill on Flinders are also showing rates well below your range.

Thank you for all your help.

Have booked Holiday Inn Flinders Lane for our stay got an amazing deal :(

Also this hotel is only a 3 minute walk from a car hire place...

Which is totally amazing for our drive to Adelaide.

Just need to book car hire which I will wait a couple of months to do as we not traveling till December and one nights hotel in Adelaide.

Super excited :)
