Romantic getaway for first wedding anniversary

Hi everyone,

We are new to Brisbane, having recently relocated from Darwin. Our 1 year anniversary is in May and we are looking to do something special (romantic and possbily fit in sight-seeing as well?) for the anniversary weekend.

Does anyone have any recommendations that are not too expensive?

It depends on what you mean by 'not too expensive'. Can you give an indication of budget? Also, what sort of sightseeing do you have in mind? Without knowing a bit about your interests it's hard to suggest things.

I'd choose beach or bush.

Quiet places close to Brisbane include the Southern Moreton Bay islands like Macleay Island or Karragarra, both have some nice beaches with calm water. Dalpura Bay on Macleay and the beach near the ferry stop at Karra. Karragarra has no shops at all, but Macleay Isand has clubs and restaurants

Have a look at takeabreak.com/MacleayIsland/Brisbane/Austra…

for some beautiful B&B's and houses for a weekend stay

I'd also look at Maleny Montville area

Hope this helps and have a wonderful romantic weekend

Tangalooma is a lovely place, can get a bit busy, Mt Tamborine in the Gold Coast Hinterland, I agree with Montville or Maleny they are lovely places.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I was thinking of spending under $1000 for two nights away.

I've been considering the idea of planning a visit to Australia Zoo with two nights in a B&B not far from the zoo (maybe 20min away?).

We're both not very adventurous, as in, not fans of hiking, bushwalking, etc.

There are quite a few good bed and breakfast places/chalets at Mt Tamborine for a romantic getaway.

Our favourite romantic 'weekend away' is a couple of nights in Stanthorpe. It's our closest real wine-producing area, and they have some amazing produce too - handmade cheeses and chocolates, olive groves, organic fruits... loads of fun.

The best part is that most of the 50-ish wineries are really very small, so the person behind the cellar door offering you a taste of the local vintage, is the same person who bought the land, planted the vines and harvested the grapes. We did a wine tour on our first trip which was fun, but now we just do it ourselves - visit a few places in teh morning, relax over an indulgent lunch and then maybe do a few more in the afternoon.

We also stock up on wine for the year, and enjoy drinking our 'special' wines, which we chose together on our last holiday.

You'll need a car - it's about 2.5 hours drive from Brisbane, and being at a higher altitude it's also quite a bit cooler, which is fun. It might even be cool enough to light a fire. Most cottages have open fireplaces.

Wow, 40ishcouple, Spicers Clovelly Estate is GORGEOUS!

Is that the closest one to the Zoo?

Yes, although Tamarind is just around the corner from it. It's only new and has a very good cooking school - booked to go there ourselves in a few months.....

If you're into the posh scene, I love spending the weekend away at Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast. You can get two nights there with brekky included and also a romantic dinner at the amazing Vanitas fine dining restaurant for around your budget.
