Brisbane Itinerary

Hi all,

I am planning to visit Brisbane for 2 nights in Sept/Oct 2018 (myself and wife). I've had a look at things to do and was hoping for comments, suggestions/critique on my itinerary.

Day 1:

a) Stroll round Southbank

b) See Nepal Peace Pagoda

c) Visit Brisbane GOMA

d) Picture stops at Brisbane City Hall, Treasury Casino building, Cathedral of St Stephen.

e) Brisbane City Botanic Gardens

f) Roma Street Parkland

g) Go up to Kangaroo Point Cliffs for sunset/night view of Brisbane

h) Maybe check out Story Bridge for a night view of the city from Wilsons Lookout or Captain Burke Park. Any ideas if these places would be safe at night?

Day 2:

a) Rent a car and head out to Mount Coot-tha Lookout, Botanic Gardens and Planetarium.

b) Free evening - open to suggestions.

I will have likely done Gold Coast at this point already, and be heading on towards Sunshine Coast after Brisbane. Have I missed out any major things which are worth seeing? Any suggestions for evenings? Finally, any suggestions on where to stay which is well priced in Sept/Oct and apartment style accommodation? Many thanks!

Hello,

How much do you want to spend per night? Give us a figure in AU$ Per room per night for the apartment-style accommodation and we can suggest some. (Look on a currency converter website to convert your currency into ours).

Without knowing your budget, it is hard to recommend accom.

The itinerary looks good but uwill need an early stat to get all of day 1 done.

GOMA opens at 10 am. I suggest you head to City Botanic Gardens early morning, then walk over the Goodwill Bridge to Southbank. Visit gardens, Pagoda, then be at GOMA for opening. Head to the Treasury Building, the Brisbane City Hall (Museum of Brisbane is excellent and free) skip the Cathederal for now - do that later in the evening or on day 2.

Walk to Roma Street Parklands and enjoy. If you still have the energy, bus or walk to Wilsons Lookout via Chinatown (maybe have dinner in Chinatown) . Yes, perfectly safe at night using your common sense.

Day 2: you dont really need a car if you only intend on Mt Coot-tha and the botanic gardens - bus goes there regularly and once younare back in the city, parking can be an issue, however, car is more flexible and you could park at the top of the Kangaroo point Cliffs (read parking sign limits carefully - council love to fine people) and take the stairs doen the cliff, walk along the water to the east, take the stairs back up on to the bridge and walk across back to China town and then return to your car., or just stsy on river level, walk to Captain Burke Park and back. Story Bridge Hotel is a nice place for a refreshing beverage.

Best view of the city at night is from the top of Kangaroo Point Cliffs on River Terrace (where you can park re above)

Cheers.

Also do you know what times the bus run until to Mt Coot-tha in case we want to stay for sunset?

For apartments around $150 per night I would recommend either Mantra on Quays or Meriton on Adelaide Street which are by the river next to the Story Bridge

Accommodation - love Docks on Goodwin at Kangaroo Point ( near Storey Bridge). Can get free ferry (city hopper) to Southbank, City etc and walk to KP cliffs ( get dedicated park space with accommodation).

Would anyone say Day 2 is a waste of time to stay in Brisbane just to go to Mount Coot-tha? My next stop would be Sunshine Coast so would it be recommended to cut day 2 and just head to SC?

It would be very simple for you to drive to Mt Coot-tha early on day 2, have breakfast or a coffee up there, then head to the SC. You likely would only spend an hour at Mt Coot-tha.

Cheers.
