Driving Melbourne to Canberra- where to stop?

We are driving Melbourne to Canberra in September (and back again a week later) with 2 children age 8 and 11 years, both of whom get motion sick if they just stare at screens or read in the car for any length of time.

So we give them short bursts of screen time, but frequent stops for fresh air and to stretch legs is handy.

Can anyone familiar with the route make suggestions for places we can stop along the way – parks for a run around, something (anything) of note to look at for a few minutes fresh air?

Many thanks

Lou

From memory, there're nice gardens in Benalla near the Broken Creek. And I'm pretty sure there's a park / playground in Shepparton on the main road. Think there's a small lake there. And you can always stop somewhere in Albury/Wodonga so they can stand on the border.

Yes, Benalla has a large rose garden and a playground

The border is on the bank on the Wodonga side. The actual river is in NSW

Shepparton isn't on the highway from Melbourne to Canberra. It's not really even a "Ballarat to Canberra" place.
