How to plan an itinerary based from Mansfield, VIC

We have been given a week in January at an RCI resort- address below. We plan to come to AUS for 2-3 weeks total, during our school break in January. My question, what is there to do and see around this area- we love to hike and kayak etc., but also want to see something of the country. We have up to a week before and a week after this resort stay to go elsewhere in or near Australia. Any suggestions?

Here is where we are staying.

Mansfield Country Resort

Banumum Road

Check these links for things to do around Mansfield (p.s. that region is not renowned for kayaking)

As for "elsewhere in or near Australia", well, that's too broad a question to answer

Is this a time share venue?

There are plenty of hikes in the surrounding area in the High Country. You could find somewhere to canoe or kayak on Lake Eildon.

Expect it to be pretty hot. Well very hot...

You could do a trip to Beechworth historic area and Yackandandah.

Melbourne is a locigal place to visit since that is where you will need to fly into.

I suggest you look at a map.

Sounds like you are outdoors people? Any other ideas about what you want to see and do is helpful to those giving ideas, especially for the two separate trips. Do you want for example, any city experience or different climate zones? Do you want main tourist stuff or off the beaten track?

You need to get onto your itinerary ASAP as January is school holidays here and things get busy particularly in the coastal areas.

Being summer, hiking becomes a bit more tricky due to bushfire risk plus just walked ng in the heat and carrying sufficient water. . But it is possible.

I’m wondering a week in Tasmania for some walks ( kayaking too?), then The other one could be from Cairns/ Port Douglas for rainforests ( though it’s the wet and stinger season), through to a short road trip in Victoria or across to SA for Kangaroo Island or Flinders Ranges ( but will be very hot), Sunshine Voast in Queensland for beaches.

Lots of choices depending on interests and whether you want to fly or just drive.
