There are two hiking routes from San Rocco to San Fruttuoso, one that is over the sea and the other that is inland. Having taken the one over the sea, I do not wish to have a repeat of that harrowing experience. I would, however, like to take the other, inland route if it does not have the cliffside, holding-onto-the-chain-for-dear-life necessity. Can someone tell me what the inland route is like? Is it a reasonable hike, and are hiking poles necessary? Thanks for any news, good or bad. I I note that hitting the hill that overlooks the fishing village is an exquisite event, akin to seeing Machu Picchu spread below you from the Inca Trail overlook.
