Self Catering in Kenmare

Hello all! My fiancé and I will be visiting Ireland for our honeymoon this September and we are looking to book a self catering home in Kenmare from Sept. 23rd-26th. So far we have 3 we are considering and I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with any of them? pros and cons? Also, any other suggestions would be appreciated. We would like to be fairly close to town and able to cook a few meals. Thanks in advance!

You will be lucky to find anyone with experience on any particular rental house except reviews on their web site.

However, I can tell what we look for when doing self catering. Unlike hotels, self catering may not necessarily provide coffee makers or hair dryers or include heat/electricity in the rental fee.

What I noticed from each of the three you are considering is, #1 mentions inclusive of electricity, linens and towels. Towels are sometimes an extra charge at self caterings. The photo of #1 shows a coffee maker in the kitchen. Also, you can email the host directly (very important). House #2 mentioned hair dryer available. House # 3 no hair dryer and review mentioned extra charge for electricity, although #3 had more photos of the property.

One other tip on self catering, bring plastic bags from home for grocery shopping.

You are looking for a short let which may be easier in September than in high season. I have used this owner for four years now and have been vey pleased with the accommodations. He has several options that are within easy walking distance of town.

Thanks for the advise, a few of those things (hairdryer) I didn't think of at all. I'll check out kenmarerentals. Thanks! Is electricity per day usually expensive? I have no idea what the ball park range even is.

It depends on what the heating is for the rental. If it's electric heat and you use it a lot it could be expensive. In September you won't need much. Basically you'll be heating water and possibly running the dryer and not much beyond that. Propane or fuel oil can be expensive, though.

Our cottage (in Kenmare) uses propane for heat and for hot water as well as for the cooker. In May and June it averages €35 a week. Electric would be about €12 a week.
