Must do in gatlingburg for couple

My boyfriend and I have been together for a several years and will be taking our first vacation just us 2!

We will be going to Gatlinburg mid September 2018 for 5-6 days and wanted to get some must do suggestion while we are there. There are so many things and I'm not sure what's best!

Ditto for the park, go on a hike. Drive cades cove or the roaring fork motor nature trail.

You could do something fun like have an old timey photo made as a keepsake.

SavantIII has nailed it for us - GSMNP, and near-by environs. That is really all that we want - other than staying at near-by Blackberry Farm.

Since it's y'all first time to the area I would recommend having breakfast at least 1 time at The Pancake Pantry, explore the Great Smoky Mountains, Ripley's Aquarium, sample some moonshine, Rocky Top Wine Trail, horeseback riding, mountain coaster. Maybe go to a dinner show one night. Drive the bypass during the day and at night to see the city lights and sights. Go to Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen and get some Taffy. Go to 🍩 donut friar in The Village. Ride the Ober Tram. Ride a chair lift and drive through the arts and crafts area in Gatlinburg.

I would stop at the Sugarlands Visitor Center in the GSMNP. Do the short hike out back to Cataract Falls. Head on over to the Chimneys Picnic area for lunch, climb on the HUGE river rocks, take some pics! Drive on over to Newfound Gap and Clingman's Dome. Take a sweatshirt for Clingman's even if it is a hot day in town...it is cooler up there!! Do the hike at Laurel Falls. Stop at the Sinks to revel in the power of the falls. IF you want to do guided horseback riding, the one next to Sugarlands is pretty decent.

Walk around downtown Gatlinburg at night. Stop in the Village Shops to see the flame coming out the top of the tiered fountain. Grab a donut from the Donut Friar and some chocolates from Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen. Watch the taffy being pulled on the old machines in the window front. Take a stroll down River Rd past he Mysterious Mansion at night. Go to Crockett's for breakfast (HUGE pancakes & awesome Pecan Smoked bacon) and the Park Grill for dinner (Moonshine Cheery Beef Kabobs and Smores Brownie are excellent). If you like Moonshine, check out the distilleries. Ride the Rowdy Bear Mountain Coaster at night with the twinkle lights on!! If you get a chance ride over to the Smoky Mountain Farms Jelly Shop. It is a neat place that has been around forever.

Head over to Pigeon Forge via the Gatlinburg By-Pass, stopping at the Gatlinburg Overlook. Check out the Old Mill District in Pigeon Forge. Have lunch at the Old Mill. Everything is excellent!! IF interested in making your own metal craft, you can do that here at Iron Mountain. Grab dessert at the Apple Barn Cider Mill & General Store. Shop around the shops around town. I recommend Three Bears for souvenirs. You can feed the bears here during certain hours. IF you are interested in a Dinner Show, you can get discount tickets in the foyer of Three Bears. I recommend the Dixie Stampede. Like Go-Karts? Save your receipt from Three Bears and show next door at Rockin Raceway for BOGO go-kart rides. Definitely head over to the new Track (formerly Bear Country) for the Blaster Boats. They are awesome!!

I usually try to plan something for my husband along the way as well. Some "guy" things that he has enjoyed have been Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville and Cooter's in Gatlinburg. Frank Allen's Market & Grill is great too as it is a "diner" style restaurant with a grill-counter inside a gas station in Sevierville. Don't let it fool you...they have GREAT burgers!

Take a ride out through Wears Valley. If you find yourself hungry out this way, Friendly Falls offers casual eats with a view of a small waterfall. Grab dessert at Cakes by Bakin Bishop. This is a MUST. Keep on driving over towards Townsend. Check out Moonshine Ridge. They have lots of FREE samples. Drive over to Townsend to tube the river at River Rat. Don't miss the coupon out of the coupon books around town!! Like trains? Check out the FREE Little River Railroad & Lumber Museum in Townsend.

Drive over towards Dandridge one day. Stop at the English Mountain Trout Farm IF you are interested in catching your own lunch. Talk about FRESH trout! Head on over to the FREE Bush Beans Visitor Center. It is pretty neat. Onsite Bush Beans Cafe is decent IF you want casual food. Tinsley Bible Drug is also great downtown Dandridge IF you want burgers, shakes and fries served up in a 100+ year old pharmacy from the fountain-grill.

IF you want to ice skate, drive up Ski Mountain Rd to Ober. They have a HUGE ice skating rink here that we have enjoyed. The rest of the place is kind of run down and disappointing, but the ice rink is great.

Interested in a lunch or dinner Riverboat ride? Head over to Knoxville to the Star of Knoxville. Make sure to reserve ahead of time.

Feel like an excursion? Over in Bryson City, there is a neat trail in the Deep Creek section of the park where you can hike to 3 waterfalls on one short trail. You can even swim up to one of the falls, Tom Branch Falls. You can tube the river here too. Na-Bers Drive-In in Bryson City is a neat place to eat...a REAL old fashioned drive-in restaurant. Good eats and reasonably priced too.

Well, these have been some of our favorites. Hope this helps!
