Excursions from Cefalu

Question

Hello

My husband and I are staying in Cefalu for a week in early september.  we had intended to hire a car but, for various reasons, are now not going to do so.  We are worried a week in Cefalu may be too long.  I was hoping there might be some public transport (buses/trains etc) that we can use to make day trips out to interesting nearby places.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I can't find any useful links, other than the general train website.  Some suggestions on where buses leave from, companies that do excursions or nearby towns worth seeing and that you can get to by train would be greatly appreciated!

Early September is a lovely time to visit a beach resort town like Cefalù – There are fewer crowds, cooler temperatures, and warm seas after the heat of summer.

Cefalù is served by Trenitalia, so excursions to Palermo are convenient.

AST runs bus service to the Madonie – Caselbuono is an especially pretty town.

You could also take the Ustica Lines hydrofoil service to the Aeolian Islands (until mid-September). Although your time on Lipari would be short, the Aeolian Islands would be a delightful day excursion from Cefalù.

Departing Cefalù at 8.15, you would arrive in Lipari at 11.30, and departing Lipari at 16.25, you would return to Cefalù at 20.00.

What are some of the fun things to around Cefalu in October? We do not mind hiring a driver and are travelling with older people in our group of 4.

With a base in Cefalù, you could visit much of Central Sicily - Enna, the Parco delle Madonie, Castelbuono, Himera, Caccamo, Alia, Solunto, Bagheria, Palermo, Mondello, Monreale, Halaesa, Santo Stefano di Camastra, the Parco dei Nebrodi, Capo d’Orlando, Tindari, Piazza Armerina, Villa Romana del Casale, Morgantina, Aidone….

Autumn is a wonderful time for feasts and festivals.

We will be in Cefalu mid September. We;re hoping to go to Agrigento for the day; to Monreale; and to Madonie Park. Not sure about Lipari as our schedule may prevent us from making it before the hydrofoil quits Sept 15th. We will have a rental car and wondering if you would have any suggestions for these daytrips.
