Train from Altrincham to Manchester Airport?

I'm thinking about booking the Travelodge in Altrincham before we fly the next day from the Airport, and we aren't sure whether to travel from the North East by train or car. Does anyone know if you can get a train from Altrincham station to Manchester airport train station or would it be better and easier to get a taxi each way?

You'd need to get the tram or train from altrincham to deansgate or Piccadilly then the train to the airport. It might be easier to get a taxi! I think my mum said she paid £17 from Timperley (a couple of miles from Alty) to the airport the other week.

As Edinem says, Altrincham doesn't have a direct rail or tram link to the airport (they're currently extending the tram network to the airport but will take another couple of years). There is a bus - the 18 that goes from Altrincham to the Trafford Centre via the airport which may suit:

There's a Premier Inn now described as "Manchester Airport (Heald Green)" which is on the north side of the airport, which is literally next to Heald Green station - one stop to the airport, which may better suit if you want to use the train.

Apologies for the duplicate post - gremlins somewhere!

Others will be better on suggestions for the car alternative.

Thanks to all for the above replies. It seems like the Heald Green travelodge would be best if we wanted to use the train, if you can just get the train along one stop

The Heald Green is Premier Inn, not Travelodge (a bit better IMO).

The little map on that page shows the station, too.

There's no problem about one stop on the train - National Rail will give you the details, several trains per hour, journey times 5-10 minutes.

You're welcome. I have eaten in the Beefeater at the PI - OK standard menu. If you are looking for a meal there's also a newish Hungry Horse round the corner - perhaps a 5 minute walk (not tried this):

I got an early morning taxi from Altringham travel lodge 04.00am. Booked the night before via the hotel reception desk, the cost was just £10.00. Others booked their own taxis cost a little more at £12.50. It's a great new Travelodge, shops and bars nearby. Also has a Homebargains few metres away in case of last minute shopping.
