Vienna Travel options

Hi All,

We are planning to fly to Vienna from London in early December and then visit the below places from there.

Prague

Salzburg

Bratislava

Budapest

Is it best to book the train tickets to travel between these places in advance(online) or

we can buy the tickets as we travel ?

Also, I would need your suggestions as to which among these places are must-visit ones.

Thanks in advance :)

How long have you allowed to cover these cities?

Norman asks a good question. To get the best out of all those cities you will need an absolute minimum of 2 weeks and even then it’s going to be quite rushed with a lot of traveling.

Hi

Can you fly into Prague and out of Budapest or vv? This will cut your train time. Buying discounted tickets on-line is the way to go as buying as required at stations will cost you the full fare. The only problem with these discounted tickets is that you can only travel on the day you nominated and the train you booked and if you miss it, there will be no refund. But if you can get it together and book early enough, the savings could be huge.

Some links below for you to fiddle with.

Bratislava can be done by catching a bus from Vienna and Vienna Airport (also by train and ferry but the bus is cheap) so have a look Euroline or Flixbus. These bus lines can also be used to get to your other destinations.

Good luck!

Two cities in a week would be pushing it! Settle for Vienna and Salzburg, then you can enjoy your trip and not spend most of it on a bus or train!

All those cities in a week! Sounds like a 'tick-off' tour. I would at the very least drop Budapest and Bratislava.

I would suggest you rethink things as a week simply isn’t enough to see all 5 Cities. When you consider traveling time you probably won’t even get a full day in each City.

For 7 nights my suggestion would be to have 4 in Vienna and do a daytrip from there to either Bratislava or Salzburg and then head up to Prague have 3 nights there before flying home.

If you have already bought flights in and out of Vienna I’d Just stay there for the whole week and spend a day each in Bratislava and Salzburg.
