    Family winter activities in and around Turku

    I will be in Turku from mid November to mid December this year, with my family (husband and two school aged children). We will be based in Turku for work purposes, but will have weekends free for travel. Many places seem to be closed for the period we will be in Finland. I would like some suggestions on activities (both indoor and outdoor) that we could enjoy as a family in Turku or in places within easy travelling distance via public transport.

    This will be our first trip to Finland so any help with must-visit places and must-do things as well as travel tips is most welcome.

    The time you will be staying in Turku is the most darkest time of the year. Usually there is no snow covering the ground that early in the winter. From the end on November there will be Christmas markets every weekend suitable for the family, Christmas concerts will be organised, you can also go to an ice hockey game.

    Indoor activity parks are popular with kids, and they are open in the winter as well. There's a HopLop (hoplop.fi) and a SuperPark (superpark.fi) in Turku.

    Hallo!

    Yes, the period you´re visiting isn't the nicest, but there's still lots that you can do both in and out of the Turku. Indoor: the Castle and the Cathedral are open year around. Alo the Handicrafts and Pharmacy museum are open around Christmas and they usually have special Christmas decorations. An Ice Hocke game could be fun for the kids. The City Library is also worth a visit.There are several shopping malls in and outside the town. The Arts museum can also be of interst (both the regular and special display). Then there's Caribi Spa that it's great fun for the kids and adults alike. Outdoor; The adventure park is open around the year and could be fun for kids from 4 to 12, however not worth going if it's a rainy day. The Chritmas market at Vanha Suurtori is open weekends in December. Visit Ispoinen beach Sauna which could be an experience, if there's ice already, they'll make a hole in the ice for swimming. It's also in-expensive to take a Cruise over to Stockholm and omboard the ships there's lots of activities for the kids and you get to see the archipelago.These are just some suggestions.     Hi!

    I would suggest a weekend day to Stockholm, Sweden. Take ferry in Friday night, you'll be in Stockholm in Saturday morning, spend there whole day and in the evening back to the ferry to Finland.

    But yes, that time is very dark, you can also take a day-cruise, then you would see beautiful archipelago. Check http://www.sales.vikingline.com

    It's also simple to visit Helsinki or Tampere by train (www.vr.fi).
