14 day trip to Nordic with 2 kids - 2 & 4 yrs in May 2018

We are from India and are planning a trip to Nordic Region from the 28th of April to the 11th of May. Our tickets are booked for Copenhagen and our journey starts on the 28th of April 2018. We are looking for a naturist tour - not too heavy on physical activity - since we have two small kids with us. We are fine with a bit of cycling and travelling is not an issue. Here are a few questions we are not able to answer as of yet.

1. If we start from Copanhagen, which are the countries we surely should visit. With kids of-course

2. We would prefer travelling on overnight buses / trains / ferries

3. I wouldn't say budget is a big constraint, but yet the economical the better

4. We are not really too keen on visiting the museums in these places. Again being in the middle of nature is what we want.

5. Ideally would want to travel to the smaller cities. To give an example, when we travelled to France we preferred Bordeaux to Paris.

6. Any other country which we can visit - and may be drop some scandinavian country

7. Am personally very keen about Iceland. Is that even a possibility in such a small trip?

Would appreciate your advice.

1 and 2:

This thread has some good advice: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g18951…

Most northern european countries are very kid friendly

3. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland are equaly priced. And quite expensive compared to southern european contries.

Germany a bit cheaper.

Iceland is very expensive.

Poland, Balticum, Russia less expensive.

4. Iceland, Norway and Sweden would have most to offer on nature. But be aware that it might be too the cold side that time of year (could be good, could be bad weather - very unpredicable) so consider that when you plan.

7. Iceland: Good choice. There are good , cheap and frequent connections from Copenhagen (flight). Iceland have a lot of short stay tourists and a good tourist organisation/infrastructure so it will be very easy to fit that in.

1. Many european countries are easy access from Copenhagen with flights so it really is about where you want to go. Do you want to stick to Northern Europe? If so it's easy access within 1-2 hours in flight you can be anywhere from London to Amsterdam etc but also venture south and go to Rome / Milan / Paris etc. NORWEGIAN AIR is a great non costly airline

2. FOr these travel options you can take an overnight ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo in Norway (with dfds oslo boat) - you'll have beautiful nature there. You can also take a direct train to eg Hamburg or Berlin which is a very cool city. You can take trains to Sweden.

4. for nature - as suggested above Norway and Sweden will have beautiful sceneries. If you go to Oslo there's a 7 hour train ride to Bergen which is supposed to be one of the most scenic train rides ever. In Denmark one of the nicest nature sights is Møns KLINT. Try to google it. Not sure if it will be impractical with kids but if you're into nature it is beautiful.

5. smaller cities in Denmark are not that interesting for tourists if you are not into museums etc. perhaps Roskilde would be nice for you to visit. Direct train 30 min from Copenhagen. It's out to the water and has a well known Viking museum.

6. The Netherlands would be nice to visit if you're into nature. There's also Belgium, Germany but as mentioned you could also venture into different countries like Italy, Spain or go to the Baltic countries like Latvia, Estonia etc. it's difficult to answer as Europe is rather 'close' so it's what you're into seeing.

7. ICELAND is about 3.5 hour flight from Copenhagen and yes I think it's doable when you're here for 14 days. You could plan a good itinerary and do 3 days In Iceland for instance.

Thank you so much for such a detailed response. We have made a few changes to our plan and now travel to Portugal from Denmark. We spend our vacantion in Portugal. We like to travel one country at a time. So surely will be spending more time there. Thanks a ton for your suggestions. Really helps.
