Amsterdam event?

My husband and I are flying in to Amsterdam from Sydney September 13 for 2 nights and I am looking at accomodation in the city as we don't have the time to be sitting on transport and want to get the most of the city while we are there. However, I am noticing on Airbnb, there is only 16% of listings left available and they are RIDICULOUSLY priced!! The cheapest private room is $268 a night!!

I am wondering if this is normal? Or are we headed there during some kind of holiday period?

The biggest annual convention - IBC. VERY bad time to be here when making late arrangements for lodging.

Oh CRAP >.< Excuse my ignorance... but what is IBC? Will the city be ridiculously overcrowded? Will the price of trams etc be inflated? Coffeeshops?

Tram 4 will be impossible. Lodging prices rediculous (but that you know). Few more people walking around. The 13th is the last day of it.

Hmm I wonder why accommodation is still expensive if it is finished on the 14th? (This is actually the date we land). Hubby is looking at hotels now and they are apparently not as bad.

So we shouldn't cancel/reshuffle that part of our trip and go elsewhere? I have a list of things I want to see (the usual AM attractions I assume) and would hate to not be able to see them properly because of crowds..!

If you're arriving on the 14th and not even the 13th then the tourist attractions should not be effected. High lodging prices could be due to just enough convention goers staying a couple days longer as tourists on the company dime.

Just did a quick booking.com check. On ur dates 35% availabilty. Two days earlier higher prices and 25% availability.

There are more than acceptable hotels available for under €160 p.n. and on Priceline Express (opaque hotels per geographic area, prepaid then hotel name revealed) acceptable hotels for less even. Hopefully a few of our resident lodging experts will catch the thread.

Excellent! Thank you for the advice.

We are looking at Linden or Backstage on opposite ends of the Jordaan area, or one of the Ibis hotels near central. All under 160Euro a night :)

Any area recommendations?

Plenty places available on the 14th & 15th at a reasonable price.

try this http://tinyurl.com/z2ut6lp

Or The Student Hotel Amsterdam City. Don't worry it will not be full of students http://tinyurl.com/ztfm6x9

Or the Arena which has recently been refurbed http://tinyurl.com/hgat2eb

Or the Mercure is in a great location http://tinyurl.com/h673abd

You got lucky to be honest arriving on the 14th.
