Rental boats too see the canals

We have seen on a couple of programs shown here in Canada, of people renting these (I think they are electric) boats to cruise the canals.

Has anyone had any experience doing this? Comments regarding price, safety, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. They're about €50/hour

Mokum boats have the easiest boats to steer IMO. As for safety have you driven a boat before? There are not that many accidents on the canals as there is a 6km speed limit which those electric boats will struggle to get to anyway.

Just be careful and give right of way to the large tourist boats. Not because you have to, because they are a lot bigger than you.

It is safe, but it can be very un-relaxed if you are not used to steering a boat.

The canals are not exactly quiet, sometimes narrow, a lot of bridges and corners where you can't see what is coming.

And the commercial cruises are huge, and have first way always!
