Amsterdam to London by Train

This is a two scenario question: We will be ending our river cruise on June 27th in Amsterdam. The boat's dock is at Javakade Ligplaats #1. How much time should we allow to travel from the dock to the Thalys train station ?

Part two: We might decide to stay one night in Amsterdam, but would like a decent hotel that is close to transportation to the train station. Does anyone have a suggestion of a nice place for one night ?

Hi there,

1) About 30 minutes as you need to wait for a bus. It's just the 'wrong' location, some other cruises end across the water where it's 5-10 mins walk to station but from Javakade it's 20 mins walk at least and hence bus is better.

2) Any hotel within the canal ring tends to have a direct tram or bus line to station. Good ones e.g. Pullman, Hyatt and at walking distance Renaissance, Crowne Plaza, Victoria.

All the best,

Specific hotels you may want to look at:

- Movenpick: Right bext to cruise terminal (PTA). Closest to where you dock,

- Amrath: Beween PTA and Central Station (CS)

- Doubletree, Barbizon Palace, Victoria, Prins Hendrik, Ibis center: All adjacent to CS.

Is the Central Station where the buses are OR where Thalys is located ??? I am guessing it is where the buses are and we would take the bus to the train station from there, but this is just a guess... So enlighten me please....

And thanks for replying in the first place.

Hi there,

Both. Bus brings you from Javakade to Central, and there one can board e.g. Thalys.

If the only reason for wanting to stay overnight is a scheduling reason (i.e., you really want to be in London but you'll dock too late for the last train)... then you could always take the overnight ferry to England instead. More information here:

Ok that's perfect. We will just go from the dock to the train station and head on out.

We decided not to stay one night in Amsterdam. So we will head on to London for two nights instead of one.

So if you have any thoughts on decent places to stay closer to the Heathrow airport, that are budget friendly, we would love to know. We can take public transportation to places of interest, so we need to be close to a bus or train.

Thanks

If your cruise line offers a transfer to the airport (Schiphol) you might want to look into that as an option. All Thalys trains stop at the airport on their way to Brussels.

So you prefer to stay two nights beside an ugly smelly airport instead of taking the chance to stay in a fairytale-like, safe, walkable city which 'Amsterdam after dark' is, and where you could wander past the beautiful canals and pop into nice brown cafes?
