One night layover in Amsterdam

I love Amsterdam but my partner has never been. We arrive in the airport around 5 pm and depart around 2 pm the next day.

How long will it take from the airport to a centrally located hotel in the city so we can arise early and walk to some sights? How long will it take to get back to the airport on the morning that we need to leave?

Any recommendations for a hotel close to where he can get a taste of the city in the early morning before we head back to the airport?

We are considering this a "splurge" so money is less important than location and the opportunity to see as much as feasible.

Thanks!!!

Hi there,

See

for things to do and transport. Good hotels near Central are e.g. Doubletree, Barbizon, Victoria and Renaissance.

All the best,

Early morning? You will have an entire evening during which you could go to Anne Frank House (though it's wise to get tickets in advance), have dinner in the Jordaan area (for example at De Reiger or at Spanjer & Van Twist), take a long walk along the canals and sit at cafes. And multiple hours the next day for a canal boat ride and some walking, or an extra museum. If you get on the train by 11 or 11.30am that gives you plenty of time at the airport.

Also look at the new art'Otel opposite the station or the Amrath but don't worry about being close to a station as most places in town are easy to reach by the great public transport system we have here. Also the 197 bus from the airport passes the Leidseplein.

If money is not that important then take a cab from the station or from/to the airport. The Waldorf Astoria has just opened so you might want to also look at that or the Andaz or Dylan hotels.
