Kinderdijk-Elshout

Hello!

I don't see any tours of the Unesco site Kinderdijk-Elshout. Is there a reason for that, or should I try to arrange a visit?

Thank you!

Hi Cecile!

Thank you again for your guidance. I think I understand that one takes a train to Rotterdam and from there sees the storm surge system, correct?

To get to the windmills does one go through Rotterdam, and can it be done by train from Amsterdam?

this is starting to look like the coolest trip ever.

Thank you again,

Hi there,

Not clear which part of the storm surge system you mean. If it's this one

cityguiderotterdam.com/things-to-do/…

then indeed it's train to Hook, but location is far from any normal public transport stop. See advices above. If it's the other Delta works, they mean long distance bus rides into Zeeland - not suitable as public transport day trip from Amsterdam,

For Kinderdijk all info was given above. Actually they're free (but plans for changing exist), the price given in the link is for the visitor centre and exhibition. Our pick would be not to take the Rebus boat but the waterbus route described (2 boats), and then return to Rotterdam or Utrecht by hourly bus as that's quicker than water. Advantage of avoiding the Rebus is that you have flexible timing, not the exactly 1 hour that this boat allows. And yes train Amsterdam-Rotterdam is maximum 1 hour (less with Fyra) so it's a possible daytrip from there.

All the best,

My answer pointed to information about how to get from Rotterdam to Kinderdijk (windmills). Not the storm breaking systems.
