6 hour layover in Amsterdam airport

Hello, I will be having a 6 hour layover in Amsterdamn - Schiphol airport. I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips on what to do for this amount of time? Are there any attractions near by? Thanks for your help.

Hi there.

You will have time to visit Amsterdam briefly. Subject to entrydocuments, assuming EC-citizen, you will just need a passport to pass customs, you can make your way to the airport railwaystation in the arrivals hall, buy a ticket dayreturn, EUR6.50 to Amsterdam Central.

The ride takes some 20 minutes one way.

A canalboat tour will fit in your timeframe for a nice global view of the canals. They start opposite the railwaystation. It will take some 1 to 1 1/2 hour. Afterwards just make a nice walk through the redlight district if you are interested, don t worry, it is full of tourists anyway, so not to be embarrassed..

Than grab a drink in one of the cafe s and make your way back to the airport. Be sure to be back in time, controlls are intense these days and queues sometimes long, especially if moving to the so called non-schengen zone....

All subject to interests and timeframe of course....

In such a short time stick to the airport, many things to do and see, even a museum. Going DT and back you will be lost in traffic.

Your check-in going back to Canada may take 2 hours.
