Just got back from our overseas trip, which included a 2 day stay in Amsterdam. It was our first time in Amsterdam and we just loved it! We had no trouble finding our way around, caught the trainin in from the airport and stayed at the Crowne Plaza City, a short walk from Central Station.
We arrived early in the morning, so after a short break headed out and did a three our walking tour with omyamsterdamtours. We were originally going to do the Sandeman's free walking tour, but decided to go for a smaller group tour, and really glad we did- only 4 of us and it gave us a really good introduction to the city and get our bearings. Late afternoon we walked some of the way and then caught the tram down to the Rijksmuseum and enjoyed the highlights exhibition. No problems getting tickets.
Next day we did a 4 hour bike ride out into the countryside with Mike's Bike Tour and had a great time. Early evening we did the Anne Frank House followed by dinner and a canal cruise at night. Mainly walked everywhere, no problems with getting people to understand our Aussie English and really enjoyed a brief overview to a lovely city- will have to return for more! Thank you to all the forum contributors for you invaluable advice and postings, really helped me to plan our trip and hit the ground running!
