Our first trip! - Amsterdam hotel and advice June 9-17

We've just had papers accepted at a conference at de meervart from June 14-16, but happily have several days to explore before. Hotel is first concern: we are interested in centrally located, and would prefer reasonably priced --perhaps something a little funky and interesting to a sleek, 4-5 star. Any recommendations are welcome. My own research so far has turned up two -- Boogaard's B&B and Hotel Washington, so anything known about these would be particularly helpful.

Aside from that, beyond usual sights, what would you recommend to 40+ academics who think they're much younger than they really are? many thanks.

Hi Rosemary,

have stayed at Boogards (rented it as an apartment though) and would thoroughly recommend!:-).

Excellent location (just behind Leidesplein), very clean and excllent breakfast. It is reviewd on this site, I suggest you have a look (ranked no 10)

Sorry, never stayed at the Washington but has good reviews on this site (in fact ranked no 4!).

Hope this helps.
