Amsterdam Hotel suggestions

We are disembarking from our river cruise on Sept. 22 and are not flying back to US until Wed. Sept 26. I would like suggestions for a moderately (?) priced place to stay maybe with a view of a canal? Budget would be $100-$175 per night. We are in our 60’s but can and want to walk to most destinations. We think we want to be near Centrally station do can catch train to airport for morning flight. Thank you for any suggestions!

The train is only one way to get to the airport easily and cheaply and depending on the location you stay it may not be the best way.

397 bus might be what you want

I can look for a,decent place within or close to budget but I can’t be looking for rooms with canal views. A greatly over rated request IMO. A room with a view any view makes more sense.

Either way off to look for a hotel for you

Sept has not been a budget month in well over 20 years now

If your budget is firm you are not in four star well located range.

But a decent three star is do-able.

Something like Hotel Piet Hein or Conscious Hotel Vondelpark both well reviewed three stars in the museum zone area. Neither close to central station.

Around $160-$170 usd plus tax per night

You could also look at the Ibis Central Amsterdam a somewhat average three star very close to central station

I have to agree, John. Recently I stayed in a really nice, posh hotel in Bilbao and, although my room was well-equipped and comfortable, it just looked out over other rooms :(. In Amsterdam I always make sure I get a room looking out over the Amstel canal and towards Museumplein, which is great, but I only choose this because the alternative is a panoramic view of the hotel car park.

Don't fret about being near the station. You can get to the airport various ways that does not involve Centraal Station. The area around the Leidseplein is probably better for you.

Quite pricey in Amsterdam on your dates.

http://www.hoteldamsterdam.com/en/booking.php is coming in at $176 pn for a deluxe room including breakfast.

http://tinyurl.com/yaee8m69 Vossius is $175 pn but for their smallest room.

Just above your budget http://tinyurl.com/y9my9yva Hotel Nicholas Witsen.

The Leonardo would also be a good choice. http://tinyurl.com/y746ceeq

I have had canal views. At night they are pretty but from what I saw not a lot to look at. Pretty quiet. Queens day some years ago was an exception since seeing the canals then was a major plus.

Overlooking the squares for me is where I find the views great at all hours also the view from the Nh Amsterdam Center looking toward leidesplien.

I never get tired at seeing Amsterdam interesting and alive at 4am as I look out my window after making another pit stop.

Ay my age I do a lot of late night looking out those windows :-)
