Golden Pass Classic Train

Hi all,

I would like to take the Golden pass Classic train during my trip , not sure where to fit it in my itinerary. How do we know which are the classic cars? To travel first class, do I need to do a serapate seat reservation? Appreciate any advice.

My travel route will be from Geneva - Chardonne - Vevey - Zermatt - St Moritz.

a) Can I visit Gruyeres from Chardonne via Golden pass classic train. Or

b) Can I take the Golden pass classic train from Montreux on my way to Zermatt?

Kindly advice. Thank you so much.

You can find the information you need here. It is now called ‘Composition Belle Epoque’.

Between Montreux and Zermatt the only way of taking the Goldenpass "Classic" train is a significant detour.

The "Classic" runs between Montreux and Zweisimmen. If you take it, continue on with the Goldenpass line to Spiez and change there for the train to Visp where you again change for Zermatt. Be prepared to spend 3 hours for this - the normal train Montreux/Visp will take 1hr 12. Up to you whether the additional two hours travel is worth it!

Having done the entire Goldenpass line, I would say it's not worth the additional two hours. Walking the mountain or riding lake cruises give you the better feel of the scenery overall.

Tks gerry. Will skip it this time then.

Vevey to Zermatt takes almost 3hrs via Visp. Is this the only option to reach Zermatt? Is the journey scenic?

Tk you.

Yes, this is the only option.

And it is quite scenic all the way. The other "option" is far longer -- Vevey/Montreux/Zweisimmen/Spiez/Visp/Zermatt. Not worth the time it takes. (The part of the Goldenpass that IS worthwhile is Luzern/Interlaken Ost...)
