Afternoon in Geneva

There will be four adults looking to spend a Friday afternoon in Geneva. We will have a car, parked at the airport.

If we go to the Old Town to look around, should we drive/park the car there, or take a taxi, or take a bus and leave the car parked at the airport?

And, is this the best use of our short time in the city? We will be heading into the countryside (Lausanne) from there, so no need to wander far for this excursion. Thanks in advance.

Best thing would be to take the train from the airport to the main station. That takes 6mins and trains run every 20 min or less. ALL trains leaving the airport stop at the main station. then walk to the lakefront and around the old town. Then train back to the airport. See the article on sightseeing in Geneva - link on the RH tool bar of this page.

Lausanne is not exactly in the country! And driving in Lausanne is very very complicated even for me who has been driving there for over 50 years. Hopefully your hotel will have free parking and then you can leave your car there and take public transport...

Thank you! The train sounds perfect for us.

Yes, our B&B has parking. We plan to just use Lausanne as a base for a couple of days, hence the "countryside".

As an alternative to the train, take a number 5 bus from the airport. It will take a little longer, but is more interesting and scenic. Get off the bus at the stop "Nations", look around the square in front of the UN, the Broken Chair, then get on a later bus into town, to Bel Air, then walk up into the old town.
