Safety in Palermo

Safety in Palermo

My sister and i are going to Palermo for a few days in October. Plan to stay in politeama. Is it safe for 2 female travellers to go out at night in this area? We're a bit older now so it won't be after midnight! Some guide books seem to suggest it can be dodgy?

Yes, Palermo is like other larger cities.

Use the same street-smarts you would as in any city worldwide.

Pickpockets are an issue, so stay alert. And of course avoid dark or deserted streets and alleys at night.

Hi Kathy,

I'm not an expert on Palermo but I went this April on my own and I would say it's like any City. I felt very relaxed out and about on my own in the evening but you need to take care as you would anywhere else tbh.

I'm going back this October. You will love it
