I will be in Vizzini and want to check birth records, etc. at the Town Hall. Is that possible?
Welcome to Sicily MissDonna172!
Each commune operates differently – Contact Vizzini’s Ufficio Anagrafe (0933 965 680). The Ufficio Anagrafe is where all the people who were born in a town are registered.
Visit the Comune di Vizzini from Monday to Friday in the morning from 8.00-14.00 – Arrive early
If unable to contact the Ufficio Anagrafe directly, try the central line.

Thank you so much for responding to my post. I have so many questions I hope you can help me with.
Will there be someone at the Ufficio Anagrafe who will speak English? I speak a little Italian but not enough to have a consersation. As I said in my first post, I am coming to Vizzini to research my grandparents geneology. From what my grandparents told me (they have long since passed away, as has my mother) their families have been in Vizzini for many generations. I am hoping to find that linage in the records in Vizzini. Would the Catholic church there also have records? My husband and I were in Vizzini 29 years ago and we met with a priest by chance who showed us where my grandparents had lived and in broken English/Italian he communicated that he had records in the church. I have written down that the church was St. Johns. But, I can't find St. Johns in the town. I do have a picture of the church and the priest but I am assuming he has passed away by now.
Also, I have read online that it is better to stay in Caltagirone than in Vizzini because Caltagirone has more accomodation/restaurant options than Vizzini. What would you recommend? If I could ask, do you live in Vizzini? Our plans are to rent a car in Catania and drive to Vizzini. We did that years ago and I remember the drive wasn't too bad, but at that time my husband was driving not me and I was much younger! I checked on a train from Catania to Vizzini or Caltaginore but couldn't find good information and then would need some way of getting from the station to the hotel. All in all, any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
I just contacted Vizzini’s Ufficio Anagrafe (0933 965 680) on your behalf, and the Ufficio Anagrafe indicated that mornings would be best for a visit, and you wouldn’t require an appointment to visit, but no one in the office speaks English.
If you are seriously researching your family ancestry, consider contacting Rosy Bartolotta, a specialist in tracing family ancestry. Rosy could research prior to your arrival, and also interpret for you during your visit.

Fantastic Geneology Tour - found relatives!!:
Yes, the churches, as well as cemeteries retain family records.
The church is probably Parrocchia S. Giovanni Battista on via Cappuccini, (0933 368645).
Obviously your heart lies with Vizzini, so why wouldn’t you sleep in Vizzini and wake in your town as your ancestors did before you? – Do you care about the accommodations or restaurants in Caltagirone?
The Vizzini-Licodia train station wouldn’t be convenient.
AST runs bus service from Catania to Vizzini, but you would very much appreciate hiring a car.
CALTAGIRONE - GRAMMICHELE - LICODIA - VIZZINI - FRANCOFONTE - LENTINI - CATANIA
You might also enjoy checking the Italian White Pages to see if you could locate any living relatives in Vizzini.
Again thank you for the great information. I had no idea there were guides. I am going to contact Rosy. You are right about staying in Vizzini. Can you recommend any lodging?
Rosy specialises in vital statistics records and family history in ancestral localities.
You’ve been to Vizzini, so you know not to expect luxurious accommodations!
It would be worth the trip to Buccheri for a meal at Osteria U Locale:
The best -
I need more of your wonderful advice. We will be flying into Catania and spending the night before renting a car and driving to Vizzini. Can you recommend accomodations in Catania by the airport?
If you’d like to stay near the airport, you would require a car, but the wonderful Castello D'Urso Somma B&B runs shuttle service.
If you’d like to stay in Catania, you could take the AMT Alibus 457 from Aeroporto Catania to Catania - Il Principe Hotel is located near the Duomo along the bus route, and Hotel Villa Romeo is located near Catania Centrale and also along the bus route.
I will try the B&B with the shuttle. I have emailed both Rosy and Sicily travel net regarding touring Vizzini/family geology. I have not heard back from either. Is it too much to ask if you could call Rosy on my behalf and ask her to email as soon as possible. If I could arrange a tour with her i think it would make our trip to Vizzini more productive and enjoyable.
I'd be happy to try - Nothing will happen over the weekend!
